May 2011
Dear BSCMF Member,
“Have this mind in you which was also in Christ Jesus: who emptied Himself; taking the form of a servant; and humbled Himself; being obedient even unto death. Wherefore God highly exalted Him.”
- Philippians 2: 5-9
“Have this mind in you which was also in Christ Jesus…” How many of us declare daily that we want to be like Jesus: We want to walk in the same victory as Jesus walked in while on the earth; we want to walk in the same Kingdom Signs, Wonders and Miracles that Jesus performed; and we want to have the same type of Kingdom impact that Jesus had in His ministry. We all declare that Jesus is our Lord and Savior; but why don’t we do what the Apostle Paul declares that we should do? Have this mind in you which was also in Christ Jesus!
The Apostle Paul declares that Jesus emptied Himself of self: Jesus cast out of His life anything that was not of God; all the pride, self-promotion – everything. Then Paul declares that Jesus took the form of a servant, which means that He lived His life for one purpose – To serve God. Whatever God said to do, Jesus did; and whatever God said for Jesus to say, He said. He suffered because His Father told Him to; He went here and there because His Father told Him to go – He only did what God told Him to do! Then Paul declares that Jesus humbled Himself, which means He thought little of Himself or what He wanted. Furthermore, Jesus took that humility to its ultimate conclusion – Even unto death.
Jesus completely separated Himself from the world and everything about it – He was in this world but not of this world; and He lived His life according to that truth. And what was the result of all this? JESUS WAS HIGHLY EXALTED! Because Jesus submitted Himself perfectly to God’s Will, God was able to exalt Him – As the Bible declares in Philippians 2:10, “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth.” Praise the Lord!
Yes, the Apostle Paul is exhorting you to have the same mindset as Jesus had; and yet you and ministers around the world fail to follow Paul’s exhortation. Church leaders are full of themselves and have great pride and are high-minded; instead of humbling themselves, church leaders exalt themselves; and they refuse to submit their will to God’s Will. Brothers and Sisters: How can we possibly walk as Jesus walk without doing what He did? If you want God to promote you and to exalt you and your ministry to a place prominence, you need to have the same mind as Jesus. Walk in humility, servanthood and say- Not my will but thy Will be done!
May God bless you richly,
Dr. Will Pantin
